Almost Done with Residency

This past week was a little more eventful than planned. I had a continuity clinic on Wednesday that confirmed my decision to specialize. I had to see my most frustrating patient and spent an hour with her- she was scheduled for 20 minutes. (She did not care.) Then I had my 28 week visit with my OB on Thursday. Got to drink nasty glucose stuff and get blood work, then a shot because I have a negative blood type. That all went fine- haven't gotten my lab results yet.
On the way home from my doctor's appointment I got in a car accident. I was driving in my neighborhood when I was hit by another car. She had a stop sign and did stop but then proceeded into the intersection and hit me. Neither vehicle was going very fast but she hit my driver's side tire and bent/broke the axle. The tire went all wobbly and the car had to be towed. Everyone, including Lily, was fine. I was pretty mad at first and might have yelled at the lady who hit me... but she did hit my new car. We have a rental now and will find out tomorrow when my car will be fixed- they give you a guaranteed delivery date. Too bad Lily doesn't come with one of those. :)
The next few weeks are likely to be eventful as well. I have 5 more working days of residency, including my last residency clinic. Saturday we head down to Florida for our baby shower. (Thanks to Kelly and my Mom) We'll be back in NC on Tuesday and then Thursday I start fellowship. Just have orientation on Thursday but that won't last long.
Starting on July 5th, it's sink or swim. I spend 2 weeks on the busy consult service. Imagine holding a pager that goes off so much that sometimes it's hard to answer the pages fast enough. You get another page before you're done handling the 1st one. Plus they will expect me to be an ID doctor when they call. That's a little scary. Ultimately the department is trying to get as many of my fellowship requirements in before my maternity leave as possible. This means that come July the party is over- no more cushy schedule (no more studying at work). With boards only 7 weeks away, that study time is super valuable. It will all work out but the next 10 weeks will be packed full.
So now you are updated. Seems like there is a lot going on. I am still feeling pretty well. I am definitely more tired now than a month or so ago. I am definitely getting bigger. My OB says that I am measuring perfectly but things like bending over are a little difficult than before. It is to be expected I suppose. The pregnancy websites say that Lily should be almost 3 pounds and 17 inches long this week. And I would say that she likes the front porch view- she keeps growing outward! :) I put a belly picture below- 29 weeks today.

TN Vacation etc

We are in Tennessee. Were staying just outside Gatlinburg in a cabin my Dad rented. Papa, Lee and Dad are here and others are coming. Kelly, Matt and Kaitlin will be here Tuesday. Helayne will hopefully also be joining us on Tuesday but that's not final yet. We can't wait to see them. The cabin is a nice place but on a steep hill. We brought the pugs with us so we have been trying to help Xander navigate the hills. He's doing okay with it but getting tired fast. He has little scrapes on his toes and ankles already- more of them than I'd like to admit. The plan for the next few days is to relax and enjoy the scenery. Tonight we are making homemade icecream.
I also have a new craft project to work on this week. My Mom and I tried it out last weekend and they came out pretty cute. We decorated onesies with felt designs and handstitching. I'll post a picture of it below. I stole the idea from a vendor I saw in NYC. Imitation is the best form of flattery right?
Below you'll see another belly picture. You will see the belly continues to grow. I can no longer comfortably bend over- there is something in my way! We hit 27 weeks today and started our 3rd trimester. Lily has been pretty active lately. She started having hiccups this week which is neat but feels really weird. Next week I have my glucose tolerance test to screen for gestational diabetes, my Rhogam shot- because I am Rh negative blood type and routine lab draw. All part of routine care- sounds like fun right? I'd rather just have another ultrasound- too bad that's not an option. :)
