Lily's Check-up

Lily had her regular check-up today. She is doing great! Her pediatrician is very happy with her growth and her weight gain. She has all these cute baby rolls starting to show up. She is getting heavier to hold and definitely feels more solid. She weighed 8 lbs 7 oz today (50th percentile for her age) and was 21.25 inches long (75th percentile for her age). She is eating mostly formula these days but still nurses for comfort and snuggles with Mommy. The pediatrician says that whatever breast milk she gets from me is beneficial for her. So we will keep on nursing and then bottle feeding.
Theresa bought us a book that some of her work contacts swear by- the Baby Sleep Solution. It claims to be able to teach your baby to sleep 12 hours a night by 12 weeks of age. While that seems a bit severe to me, it does have a bunch of good tips/ideas for creating good sleep habits in baby. Brian and I are going to start it this week- wish us luck! If I can just get her to realize that 2-4 AM is not playtime I will be happy. :)
Below are some pictures from this last week.

Getting Bigger by the Day

Lily weighs almost 8 pounds. We took her up to lactation consultant office yesterday and she weighed 7lbs 12 ounces. In a week she gained nearly a whole pound! Yay Lily! Brian and I also think she is longer. The newborn clothes fit her now and she is eating like a champ. Yay Lily!
Not much else new going on here. Newborn life is simple but very rewarding. Lily is an excellent baby. She hardly ever cries and is very content. She does not mind baths but is not a fan of having her diaper changed. She occasionally lets us know that she does not like her diaper changed by peeing on us. Brian and I have both been peed on. Last night she peed 3 times while undiapered- it got all over... created a puddle on the changing table and required a baby rinse off. Who knew that much pee could come out of one little baby.

Missing Daddy

It's hard to believe that it's been more than 2 weeks already. Lily is 17 days old today. She is growing like a weed and gaining weight. On Wednesday she went to the doctor for a weight check and was almost back up to her birth weight- she weighed 6lbs 12.8 ounces. She is eating like a champ and has adapted to our nursing/supplemental formula regimen really well. She is doing so well that we don't have to go back to the doctor until our well child check on the 21st. I think she feels noticeably heavier and she is fitting into newborn clothes now.
Today Brian had to go back to work. Lily and I miss him already and it's only lunch time. It was so nice to have him home for the last couple weeks. We had a great opportunity to bond as a little family and settle in to our new roles. He is a great Daddy. He changes diapers, holds her and prepares all her formula while I nurse. She loves her Daddy too. If she is fussy and he picks her up she quiets right down. She likes to fall asleep on his chest and snuggle up close to him. Since she spends so much time sleeping, snuggling with her is one of our favorite things to do. She spends a good hour or so awake in the mornings and then again in the evenings with little spurts of wake time around feedings. Like most newborns she sleeps more than 16 hours a day.
Over the past couple weeks Lily has gotten to meet some of her grandparents and her aunt Kelly. Everyone has immediately fallen in love with her. She is definitely going to be one spoiled little girl. Below are a few pictures from lily's first visits. Grandma Patty is here right now but I have not gotten her pictures on my computer yet... stay tuned for more pictures. :)

Gaining Weight

Lily is doing well. She gained weight at each of her weight checks the end of last week and has another on Wednesday. We are hoping for more weight gain then. She is now eating up to 2 ounces in one sitting. Most of that is still formula via a syringe and feeding tube. The tube is attached to the syringe and I insert it into her mouth next to my finger. She sucks on my finger and gets formula through the tube. I am still pumping and nursing but she gets the majority of her nutrition from formula. I am trying to increase my milk supply by pumping and taking an herbal supplement- we'll see if it works. Besides eating, she still sleeps a lot! She is awake a few hours a day- like most newborns. She is an absolute doll awake or asleep. She is a very good natured baby. She does not cry much- usually only when you change her diaper- and then it's only a few cries. She really likes to be held and when she is fussy at night Brian will let her sleep on his chest. Overall we are settling into a rhythm and it revolves around feeding Lily.
She is starting to like baths. She has gotten 2 emergency baths this week after poop explosions. One of these emergency baths was followed by a Mommy emergency bath/clothing change. Poop escaped the diaper and got everywhere! All I could do was laugh.

Lily's full belly after lunch.
